Pyrite, also know as Iron Pyrite or Fool's Gold is a brass coloured mineral with a bright metallic lustre. Pyrite is formed in a variety ways in varying conditions throughout the world. Called Fool's Gold because of being mistaken for Gold by inexperienced prospectors, Pyrite often occurs with Gold and large Pyrite deposits can contain Gold. Gold is relatively soft in comparison to the harder, but brittle Pyrite.
